The International Association of Pastel Societies represents pastel societies uniting in a common cause—to demonstrate the validity and quality of fine art in pastel around the world. Membership is limited to qualified pastel societies. There are no individual memberships available. Only Member Societies are eligible to participate in certain IAPS activities. IAPS was founded in 1994 through the efforts of Urania Christy Tarbet.

IAPS sponsors annual competitions and exhibitions open to members of member societies. Artists accepted and/or awarded in specified IAPS competitions may accrue points towards IAPS Master Circle status and IAPS Eminent Pastelist status. Please see the IAPS Honors page for more information about honors.

Every other year, IAPS sponsors a convention where pastel artists from all over the world can gather to attend lectures, demonstrations, hands-on classes, explore the world of pastel materials in the trade show area, and enjoy the excitement of being part of the world community of pastel artists.

Our Tenth Biennial Convention will be held in June, 2013. The growth of this biennial event has been phenomenal, with each convention bigger and, we believe, better than the one before. Please join us in Albuquerque for this wonderful opportunity to learn about and celebrate the medium of pastel.

The medium of pastel lends itself to any subject and any style. Throughout this site, you will see examples of the finest pastel paintings from around the world.

Maggie PriceIAPS is sad to announce the passing of Maggie Price, President of the International Association of Pastel Societies and co-founder of the venerable publication, The Pastel Journal. Maggie's legacy not only includes her IAPS presidency and the magazine, but bestselling books, DVD's and workshops that have inspired students around the world to become better artists. Her third book, Creative Freedom, was just published by Northlight books in arch this year.

To honor her legacy IAPS is creating a perpetual award in her name. The Maggie Price Award of Excellence will be given at each IAPS Exhibition, starting with the 2013 Convention this June. Anyone who is juried into one of our shows will be eligible for this award.

If you or your art society wish to honor Maggie you can send a check made out to IAPS to:
