Society History and Purpose

The Pastel Painters of Maine (PPOM) was established in 1999 by a group of artists interested in promoting the medium of soft pastel by uniting local and regional artists and by increasing the public's awareness of the medium.

Society Activities

PPOM offers monthly activities including meetings and programs, paint-outs and paint-ins, workshops and exhibitions. We publish a newsletter several times a year and have a well-stocked lending library available to all PPOM members. Events are held in both Northern and Southern locations around the state.

Our International Juried Exhibition “For Pastels Only” has been held yearly since 2000. In conjunction with the annual juried exhibition, PPOM offers a workshop and/or demonstration conducted by the judge, a nationally-known pastel artist. In addition, we hold annual non-juried member shows.

Membership Information

PPOM has grown to more than 160 members from throughout Maine, New England and East Coast states. Membership is $25/year. Benefits of membership include discounts on PPOM-sponsored workshops and juried show fees; non-juried member shows; newsletter; lending library; link to your website on the PPOM website; paint-outs and paint-ins; liaison with Maine Arts Commission and IAPS.
