Pastel Society of
Eastern Canada
Purpose
PSEC’s main purpose is to focus on the “renaissance of pastel” through education and the promotion of this beautiful and unique medium.
Society History and Activities
The Pastel Society of Eastern Canada was founded in Montreal, Quebec, in 1994 and the current membership totals some 250 dedicated pastellists. As of November 2011, we have over 80 signature members and 6 master painters. PSEC is a non-profit organization and a member of IAPS. It also has links to Pastel Artists of Canada and to L’Art du Pastel en France. PSEC presents one members’ choice exhibition each spring and in the fall a national juried show, international every other year. e.g.: International in 2011 and national in 2012 The association endeavours to maintain a high standard in the works exhibited and requires that at least 90% of the final painted surface be in dry pastel. Over the years, many PSEC members have participated in international exhibitions, have won many prizes and have had their paintings appear in major art publications.
