SATURDAY NIGHT BANQUET
Saturday, June 4, 2011
Reception (Cash Bar) 6:30 • Banquet begins at 7:30
The Saturday Night Banquet is a favorite event during the biennial Convention. In addition to a chance to enjoy a delicious meal and the company of other artists, the program during the banquet offers some special features.
Presentation of Master Circle Medallions
At each Convention, artists who have accumulated sufficient points by acceptance and/or awards in IAPS Exhibitions receive their Gold Medallions. These are a beautiful and enduring symbol of achievement, and presentation of the medallions is a special feature of the Banquet. A list of recipients of current and previous awards is maintained on the IAPS web site.
Presentation of Golden Mentor Awards
There are people whose efforts create opportunities for others; individuals who support the medium of pastel and the IAPS organization, giving unselfishly of their time and energies so that others may benefit. We acknowledge these people at each Convention with the Golden Mentor Award.
Keynote Speaker
Our Keynote Speaker in 2011 will be Kate Hersey of Unison Pastels. John Hersey, now sadly passed away, was an artist whose vision of how pastels could be made and used benefited first his artist friends and then the pastel community world-wide. Kate will present a brief slide show with images of the Unison workspaces and pastel production methods.
Auction of Paint-Around Paintings
The five paintings created on Thursday night by the five Paint-Around artists will be auctioned, with the proceeds going to the IAPS/UCT Scholarship and Education Fund. Each year, this fund allows a group of deserving artists to take workshops with well-known pastel instructors. The paintings auctioned at this event are unique and treasured pieces, especially coveted by those who watched their creation.
Purchase Banquet Tickets
Banquet tickets are $49 each. A few tickets may be available at the convention registration desk on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning, for those who did not order tickets in advance. (Advance purchase online is now closed.)
